International community concerned by increase in violence in Sri Lanka
ColomboPage December 20th, 2006Dec 20, Colombo: As international agencies rush relief to displaced civilians in Sri Lanka’s North and East, the United Nations has expressed “deep concern” over the escalating violence in the country. “Over the last few days, government officials have cleared the movement of some 7,500 liters of diesel fuel for transportation by the International Committee of the Red Cross/Red Crescent (ICRC) to the Vanni from Vavuniya,” said Jan Egeland, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator.
