Sri Lanka Customs seized a container carrying over 10 million counterfeit cigarettes at Grandpass, Customs Media Spokesperson Leslie Gamini told Ceylon Today Online.

It was found that 10,770,000 counterfeit cigarettes were in the container. The container has been imported from Dubai by an importer from Nugegoda, declaring that the contents of the container were chest freezers, he added.

The cigarettes are valued to be Rs 355 million, for which the evaded payment is estimated to be Rs 300 million.

Customs officials are carrying out further investigations into the incident.
